What is Art
The Cambridge Dictionary defines art as “the making of objects, images, music, etc. that are beautiful or that express feelings.” I agree with this definition except for the last part: “that are beautiful or that express feelings.” The language of the definition implies that a piece of work can look nice to be considered art or have an emotional aspect to be art which is something I’d like to argue against in this post. I think something that we can all agree upon is that the way we interpret art is extremely subjective. Above is an image of my robotics team’s robot for this past season (say hello to Tempest!). You could say I’m biased, but I think this robot is beautiful. The way that it is able to move so smoothly, the color scheme, the squary yet smoothed out bumpers, and other details are just some examples of how this robot appeals to me visually.
